A pipe bomb has been found in Finglas in Dublin.

The device was found in the Dunsink Lane at around 11pm last night.

Army bomb disposal experts arrived on scene at 12.45am.

According to thArmy, the improvised explosive device did contain explosive content.

No controlled explosion was carried out but the device was made safe.

The bomb disposal officer gave the all clear at 1.55 am and the remains of the device were handed over to gardaí for investigation.

As yet there have been no arrests in connection with the find.

Elsewhere, explosive devices were found on a railway line in Northern Ireland last night.

The crudely manufactured devices were left by the track near the City Hospital in south Belfast.

Bomb disposal experts were first called to the site last night after a member of the public reported suspicious activity near the line.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated during the subsequent security alert as controlled explosions were carried out on a bag containing the devices.

The items were later declared safe and removed for forensic examination.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward
